Prospective longitudinal study of EEG-based measures of sensorimotor processing (including the mu rhythm), comparing healthy infants and those at risk of developing cerebral palsy following perinatal brain injury. The aims are 1. Define the chronological development of mu-rhythm modulation from birth to two years and identify the age by which typical mu-rhythm modulation is established; 2. Determine how mu-rhythm development diverges between typically-developing infants and those who later develop cerebal palsy.

Data Collection in Progress

The student will assist with acquiring EEG data in newborns and infants/toddlers up to the age of 2 years. EEGs will be recorded at rest and during passive motor tasks in neonates, and during engaging active motor tasks in older infants/toddlers, so a keen interest in working directly with infants and young children is essential. The student will also have the opportunity to contribute to literature reviews, data analysis, presentations and writing.

Data handling or analysis (e.g. using Excel, SPSS, R, STATA or similar tools); Basic programming or coding experience (e.g. familiarity with Python, R, MATLAB etc.); Clinical data collection (e.g. conducting audits, extracting data from patient notes); Experience in working with infants/young children would be an advantage
